To Her Refuge I Fly

The Virgin in Prayer by Sassoferrato

Mary, let me not be to thee a fair-weather son,
Who in lights and consolations fervently prays,
But in nights and trials doth fly and run.

Aid me, that in darkness too I may upon thee gaze.
Thou leadest me! I need not a sign from thy Son,
Faith is enough; it shines forth with radiant rays.

Let me run in love, my days lit by this sun,
Let me run to thee, and soon I shall see the Just One.
