The Greek Sinon before Priam by Pieter Goddyn
Occasionally a shade comes to me
To tell, to make me see
A truth to set me free.
But it has not the Savior’s aspect,
Nor his Mother’s respect.
“A friend?” “A serpent?” I suspect.
Before me this princess stands
Laying palms in my hands;
I refuse, seeing beyond her plans.
“Where is the horse, Sinon?
In the name of God, be gone!”
