Dante drinks of the River Eunoe by Gustave Doré
When sin haunts me, and love I am tempted to doubt,
And thus depart from the one road, narrow and straight,
I call to mind a memory that ends and overpowers the drought.
When you gazed into my eyes with the opposite of hate,
I saw a new world and a new life, as chains invisible fell.
Blinded by your benevolence, I felt my fear dissipate.
By this you pulled me out of misery’s well
And proved that I never had to live in Hell.
